What is a "Play Pedagogy"?
Pedagogy means the art or science of teaching.
The play pedagogy is a method of helping a young person
play with a purpose. It endeavours to give tips and suggestions
to enable the build up of a know-how of instructive play.
It is based on fun and mutual respect.
Play activities are not formal lessons to be taught. They are a practical, well researched means of creating or prompting a young child’s interest and developing skills in a safe, relaxed and non-competitive environment with a familiar and trusted adult.
We all want our child to evolve into a well-balanced intelligent person.
Play activities stimulate and develop the skills needed to
try and achieve this goal.
They are divided into the following categories:
- Pretend- to stimulate the imagination
- Aware- to improve self-knowledge, release the latent intuition and practise self-training
- Tumble- to develop physical abilities, be at ease with movement
- Communicate- to generate language and foster thinking
- Contact- to acquire knowledge of one’s own environment and master problem-solving
- Handle- to reinforce manipulative skills and trigger creativity
All picture books have a corresponding play box which contains
games to play together.
